Tales from Denmark is a collection of wonder and folk stories hitherto unavailable to English speaking audiences.
The stories are brim full of shrewd observations, humour, invention and down to earth advice and are as relevant today as when they were told over a century ago.
The stories were recorded as told by storytellers from different social positions, many of whom were well versed in the hardships of the rural life of the times. Sympathetically translated and free from any literary invention on the authors’ part, the original tellers share their stories with us and by reading these stories aloud, whether in class or among friends, we have the unique opportunity of becoming the storyteller ourselves.
