Arnulf’s Saga Year 6- 1 class £225.00

Enter the Viking world through a day of storytelling and activities

Explore our Anglo Saxon and Viking heritage through the eyes of two young men- Arnulf, an Anglo Saxon and Øvind, a Viking- whose lives becomes inextricably linked after the raid on Lindesfarne in 783.

Using traditional storytelling techniques, the storytellers have constructed a saga which explores Anglo Saxon and Viking culture, customs and historical themes.

‘Arnulf’s Saga’ is deliberately unfinished so the class, working with the storytellers, can take ownership of the story and invent their own ending which the storytellers will perform.

The programme is cross curricular:

  • Geography: pupils gain a knowledge of the physical geography of the North European coastline through an understanding of the Viking trading routes
  • History: Arnulf’s saga is set between the years 790-800 and explains the language, cultures and customs of the Anglo Saxon and Viking communities centred around Lindesfarne and Lejre (setting of Beowulf).
